The world offers many substitutes instead of worshiping God. Most often, the good becomes the enemy of the best. Devotion to family and a cause  often surpass one’s worship of God. He showed David how to prioritize the Lord that results in blessing.

David placed the ark of God called by the Name, Lord of Hosts enthroned above the cherubim, on a new cart from the house of Abinadab. David and Israel celebrated before the Lord with lyres, harps, tambourines and cymbals (2 Sam. 6:1-5). God wants you to worship His name about anything else.

When they came to threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah took hold of the ark as the oxen nearly upset it. The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah and he died for his irreverence. David became angry and was afraid of the Lord. He was unwilling to move the ark into the city of David but took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. The ark remained in his house three months and the Lord blessed His household (2 Sam. 6:6-11). God is angry when you take His presence for granted.

David brought up the ark from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with gladness. After the bearers of the ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and fatling. David danced before the Lord with all his might as he and Israel brought the ark with shouting and the sound of the trumpet. Michal the daughter of Saul despised King David in her heart when she saw him leaping and dancing before the Lord. After setting the ark inside the tent David had pitched, he offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. He blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts (2 Sam. 6:12-19). Walk in the Spirit and put no confidence in the flesh.

Michal said David acted foolishly by uncovering himself. He responded that because the Lord chose and appointed him above Saul to be ruler over Israel, he would celebrate before the Lord. “I will be more lightly esteemed than this and will be humbled in my own eyes, but with the maids of whom you have spoken, with them I will be distinguished.” Michal had no child to the day of her death (2 Sam. 6:20-23).  Blessing comes as you humble yourself by associating with the lowly instead of impressing the rich.

You worship and prioritize God by:
1. Not taking His presence for granted
2. Praying constantly as you walk in the power of the Spirit and not putting confidence in the flesh
3. Associating with the lowly and not taking yourself seriously
